- Umesh B. Rao graduated from Bombay University and
obtained his M.Tech in Marine Structures from REC,
Surathkal. He worked with Tata Consulting Engineers
till 1980. Thereafter, he started his own Company
Umesh B. Rao & Co. in the same year.
- He has successfully completed varied and different
types of Projects ranging from housing, office and
commercial complexes to Industrial Projects including
Power Plants and Infrastructure Projects such as Mass
Rapid Transportation, Express Way, D.G. and Combined
Cycle, Hydel and Thermal Power Plants and Aqua-culture
Farms.
- He is a member of various Professional bodies such
as the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India),
Indian Concrete Institute, Consulting Engineers Association
of India, Consultancy Development Centre, Harbour
and Coastal Engineering Council, INSTRUCT, Institution
of Engineers (India) etc. He is also a founding member
of the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India)
and INSTRUCT, which has conducted over 450 courses
for training personal involved workers in Construction
Industry including grass root level workers, Building
Supervisors, Designers and Construction Managers.
He was Chairman of the Board of Governors of INSTRUCT
from 2003 to 2006. He is National President of Association
of Consulting Civil Engineers [INDIA] for term 2007-2009.
- He has traveled extensively abroad on professional
works and has been invited as a State Guest to Russia,
Bhutan and Japan. He has also been on his works to
Singapore, Hong-Kong, Thailand, Sri Lanka and the
Middle East – Bahrain, Qatar, U.A.E. and Saudi
Arabia.
- He was honoured with “GLOBALMAN” Award
in Abudhabi, U.A.E in the year 2004 and National Award
for Professionals on Structural Steel Design and Construction
– 2004 in Mumbai.

Structures, from REC, Surathkal.
- He has about 20 years of teaching experience, apart from
equal number of years of consultancy experience for structural
engineering services. With a flair for understanding the
behavior of structures from basics he has been a firm believer
in application of fundamental concepts of engineering principles
in problem solving.
- He is actively involved in the design and development
of solutions for deep excavations soil stabilization.
- He has been an active participant in the development
and execution of repairs and retrofitting schemes for all
kinds of structures using varied concepts and materials
in designing the same, especially for industrial and commercial
structures apart from infrastructure projects.
- Computational mechanics, Computer aided designing, alternative
building materials, Procedural automation and development
of User friendly computational/design aids using suitable

- He has one decade of experience and managed no. of projects
of Structural Designing & Detailing for various structures
of RCC, Steel, masonry, etc. ranging from housing, office
and commercial complexes to Industrial Projects in India,
US, Middle East (U.A.E., Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia).
- He has traveled abroad on professional works to interact
with clients.
- He worked with various organisations at senior level
to represent management for assuring quality (ISO: 9001
(2000) certification) and achieving company targets.
